The totals
- Tax Invoiced: the tax on invoices dated in the range, paid or not. This is the accrual figure.
- Tax Collected: the tax inside the payments and deposits that arrived in the range. This is the cash figure.
- Taxable Sales: the sales that carried tax. Hover for the non-taxable amount.
- Effective Rate: tax invoiced as a share of taxable sales.
The table
Tax by Period charts invoiced against collected tax. Switch between Weekly and Monthly with the toggle above the chart; short ranges start on Weekly. The table below has one row per week or month and a Total row:
- Invoices: how many invoices are dated in that period.
- Net sales: sales before tax, after discounts.
- Taxable and Non-taxable: how much of those sales carried tax.
- Tax invoiced and Tax collected, as above.
- When you charge two or more named rates (for example GST and PST), one column per rate, plus Other rate for invoices taxed at a rate you no longer use.
What is included
Every invoice except drafts, cancelled and voided ones counts, by its invoice date. A deposit that was carried onto an invoice is counted once. Refunds on invoice payments come off tax collected. Imported invoices count like any other, with the tax their file carried.
Exporting for your filing
Click CSV on the table to get every period and a total line as a spreadsheet.
File on one basis consistently, accrual (Tax invoiced) or cash (Tax collected), as your accountant or tax authority requires.
Your rates are set in Settings > Pricing & Discounts > Tax Rates. Every invoice records the rate it was taxed at, so changing a rate later doesn't rewrite history.
